Automation tools like n8n, Make or Zapier are the glue of many businesses: they connect your WhatsApp to your CRM, your online shop to your orders sheet or your inbox to your billing system. It’s natural to want your AI chatbot to be part of those flows.
With MuseRelay you can, and we’ll show you how. But we’ll also explain why we enable it on request: every message you send to an external tool leaves MuseRelay, and at MuseRelay we take the GDPR very seriously.
What you can automate with n8n or Make
MuseRelay offers two ways to connect your flows:
- A whole channel to your flow. Messages arriving on WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, email or Telegram go to your webhook; your flow decides what to answer and replies through MuseRelay.
- Your flow as a tool for the AI agent. The AI agent keeps talking and, when it needs to, calls your flow: to check an order’s status, register a customer in your CRM, create a task or notify another system.
Examples: your WhatsApp chatbot with your ERP, CRM or online shop
MuseRelay doesn’t connect directly to your ERP: your n8n or Make flow does, as it already has connectors for hundreds of systems, such as Odoo, WooCommerce, Shopify or HubSpot, or can call any API. The AI agent calls your flow when it needs to and answers the customer with what the flow returns.
| The customer writes on WhatsApp | Your flow | The assistant replies |
|---|---|---|
| “Where’s my order 4512?” | Looks up the order in your online shop | Its status and delivery date |
| “Do you have item AX-20 in stock?” | Checks stock in your ERP | Availability and lead time |
| “I’d like a quote for 200 units” | Creates the contact and deal in your CRM | Confirms the sales team will get in touch |
| “I need a copy of my last invoice” | Notifies your accounts team | Confirms they’ll send it |
Data only travels to your flow in Europe, and the assistant keeps handling the conversation as usual. If you sell to other businesses, this turns WhatsApp into a sales and support channel connected to your operations. Compatible tools
It works with any tool that can receive an HTTPS webhook and reply: n8n, Make, Activepieces, Node-RED, Windmill, Pipedream, Power Automate or your own server. There’s one condition: the server receiving the data has to be in Europe.
| Tool | How it fits with the GDPR |
|---|---|
| n8n | Install it on your own European server or use n8n Cloud, hosted in Frankfurt. |
| Make | Choose a European region when creating your organisation. |
| Zapier | Not for now: it stores and processes data in the US and doesn’t offer EU-only storage. |
| Activepieces, Node-RED, Windmill | Installed on your European server: full control. |
Why we enable it on request
Your conversations are stored on servers in the European Union. When you send them to an external tool, they leave MuseRelay, and that has legal consequences:
- International transfers. Sending personal data outside the European Economic Area requires a country with an adequacy decision or safeguards such as standard contractual clauses, plus informing the people affected.
- Controller and processor. You are the controller of your customers’ data; MuseRelay is the processor and can only send it where you instruct us in writing.
- Consistency. We promise your data stays in Europe. An uncontrolled webhook to another continent would break that promise without anyone noticing.
That’s why it isn’t a simple switch: we prefer to know what is being automated and with which tool before opening it, so that you and your customers can rest easy.
How we protect your data
- Manual activation by our team, for your organisation or for specific users.
- Recorded consent: you confirm you are the controller and have a data processing agreement (DPA) with the provider.
- HTTPS only: data travels encrypted.
- Server in Europe: we check the country of the server receiving the data; only the EU/EEA, the United Kingdom and Switzerland. If its location can’t be determined, it isn’t allowed.
- Documented exceptions only, with a DPA and GDPR safeguards.
We check where the server is, not who the company is: that’s why we recommend providers with a DPA and clear safeguards, or installing the tool on your own European server. We explain it in detail in the guide External automation: n8n and Make and in Data privacy and security.
How to request it
It’s available on request from the Pro plan (see the plans). Write to webmaster@muserelay.com telling us what you want to automate and with which tool, and we’ll review it with you.
What if your tool doesn’t comply with the GDPR?
Tell us anyway. If your automation can’t comply, we can look at building it inside MuseRelay. That’s our path: more and more native tools, in Europe, without depending on third parties. That’s how the booking calendar, free on every plan, and the ticket system were born: what used to require connecting other platforms is now built in, with your data in Europe. And if you want your channels to run on your own credentials too, read Born BYOK.
FAQ
Can I connect WhatsApp to n8n?
Yes. With external automation, your WhatsApp channel’s messages reach your n8n flow and you can reply from it, as long as your n8n is in Europe.
Can I connect the WhatsApp chatbot to my ERP or CRM?
Yes, through n8n or Make: your flow reads or updates the ERP, CRM or online shop, and the assistant uses the answer in the conversation. Your flow’s server has to be in Europe.
Can I use Zapier?
Not for now. Zapier stores and processes data in the US and doesn’t offer EU-only storage, so it doesn’t meet our server-in-Europe condition. If you want to automate, use n8n or Make with a European region, or a tool installed on your own server.
Do I need a data processing agreement (DPA)?
Yes: with the provider of the tool receiving the data. When enabling it you confirm you have one, and it’s recorded.
Do I need it to have an AI chatbot?
No. MuseRelay’s AI agent already replies, books appointments and opens tickets without external tools. External automation is for connecting to your own systems.
