The website chatbot is the bubble that appears on your page. Visitors click it and talk to your AI assistant or your team, without installing anything. Conversations land in Inbox Chatbots, in the panel menu.
Create the chatbot
- Go to Management → Chatbots → Create.
- Fill in:
- Chatbot name.
- Bubble message: the text next to the bubble (for example “Need help?”).
- Welcome message: the first thing visitors read when they open the chat.
- Service mode: Human service (your team replies) or Human service with AI (the assistant replies and your team can step in).
- AI agent, if you choose the AI mode.
- Save. You’ll move on to editing to customise it.
Customise the look
In the Appearance tab:
- Texts: bubble, welcome and fallback message (shown if something fails).
- Avatar: one of the presets or your own (JPG, PNG or WebP).
- Optional logo (JPG, PNG or WebP, up to 2 MB) and main colour.
- Bubble: round or square, 40 to 80 px, bottom right or bottom left.
- Chat window: 300 to 500 px wide and 400 to 700 px high.
- Show or hide the logo and message times, and the footer link.
With Live preview you see the chat working before publishing it.
Install it on your website
The Installation tab has the code for your chatbot. Paste it just before </body> on every page where you want the chat:
<script src="https://muserelay.com/bot/YOUR-ID/script.js"></script>
<div id="muse-chatbot" data-bot-id="YOUR-ID"></div>
Code options
You can add these attributes to the <div id="muse-chatbot">:
data-auto-open="true": opens the chat automatically when the page loads.data-hide-on-mobile="true": hides the chat on mobile screens.
And if your website needs to react to the chat, listen for the museChatbotReady (the chat has loaded) and museChatbotMessage events (every message, with its sender and text in e.detail).
It works on WordPress, Wix, Shopify, Webflow or any custom website. If your website has a strict content security policy (CSP), follow the guide Configure CSP; if the CSP blocks the real-time connection, the chat keeps working in compatibility mode.
Security
- Allowed domains (Security tab): add your website’s domains and the chat will only work on them. You can use
*.yourdomain.comfor subdomains; the bare domain is added separately. We recommend always setting them. - Anti-bot: an invisible check confirms that the person writing is human, without asking them anything.
- Usage limits: messages per minute and per hour from the same address are limited.
- Chatbot token: you can regenerate it if needed (it asks for your password).
Consent and privacy
In the Consent tab you set up the notice visitors see:
- Turn on the consent banner and pick a template (EU GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA, Latin America, minimal…) or write your own message.
- Require acceptance to chat: without accepting, visitors can’t send messages.
- Banner style and whether it shows before the first message.
From the chat menu, visitors can download their data, delete the conversation and withdraw or restore their consent.
Language
The chat appears in Spanish or English depending on the visitor’s browser language (Spanish also for Catalan, Galician and Basque). The assistant replies in the language it is written to.
Human service
In Human service with AI mode, anyone on your team can take over the conversation from the inbox; the visitor sees that a person has joined and, when handed back, that the assistant is back.
What it doesn’t do yet
- Visitors can’t send files from the website chatbot.
- There is no button for visitors to ask for a person; your team takes over.
- It only shows at the bottom (right or left) and in Spanish or English.
FAQ
Will it slow my website down?
Barely. Paste the code at the end of the page, just before </body>, and your content will show first.
I see “Domain not authorised”
You’re using the chat on a domain that isn’t on your list. Add it in the Security tab.
Is it in the free plan?
Yes. The free plan includes one channel, and it can be your website chatbot.
