Messenger: connect your Facebook page

ES EN

Connect your Facebook page’s messages and handle them from the unified inbox, with your AI assistant or your team.

How it connects

Today the connection uses your own credentials (BYOK): your app in Meta for Developers with the Messenger product. We are preparing guided connection (“Connect with Facebook”), where you just authorise and choose the page.

What you need

  • A Facebook page you administer.
  • An app in Meta for Developers with Messenger and the page linked.
  • A Page Access Token (EAA…) with the permissions pages_messaging and pages_manage_metadata.
Important: App Review. For your page to talk to anyone, Meta requires your app to have pages_messaging with advanced access (App Review). Without it, only your app’s admins and testers can send and receive messages: useful for testing, not for serving customers.

Step by step

  1. In MuseRelay, Channels → Create channel → Messenger.
  2. Fill in the Page ID (numbers only) and the Page Access Token.
  3. Under App Secret and advanced settings, the App Secret (required; App settings → Basic): MuseRelay uses it to check that every message really comes from Meta, and without it messages are rejected. Optional: the App ID and a Facebook User Access Token; with all three, MuseRelay renews the page token automatically.
  4. Save: the webhook URL and verify token appear.
  5. In your app, Messenger → Webhooks, paste the URL and token and subscribe at least to messages, messaging_postbacks, message_deliveries and message_reads.
  6. Click Test connection.

Renewal and alerts

If you saved the App ID, App Secret and user token, the page token is renewed every night automatically. Otherwise, renew it at Meta before it expires and paste it under Channel settings. MuseRelay checks the connection every 6 hours and emails you before the token expires and if the channel stops working.

Which messages it receives

  • Text and attachments (image, audio, video, file).
  • Quick replies and edited messages.

From the inbox you can send text and files (up to 10 of 25 MB). The assistant replies with text.

24-hour window

You can reply freely within 24 hours of the customer’s last message. Between 24 hours and 7 days, a person on your team can reply from the inbox as human support, if your app has that permission at Meta.

Channel options

  • Channel AI agent, with pause and resume.
  • External automation (n8n, Make) — on request.
  • Take over any conversation.
  • Sync with Meta, Test connection and enable or disable the channel.

What it doesn’t do yet

  • Reply to comments on the page.
  • Buttons, templates or quick replies sent by the assistant.
  • Proactive messages or broadcasts.
  • One-click guided connection (in preparation).
Connection, expiry and alerts

Own credentials or guided connection, how long access lasts, who renews it, which alerts you get and what to do if the channel stops working: full guide.
